REPORT: 2nd Epic Eagle’s 33 Failure

Executive Summary

I failed again. 31 out of 33 peaks in 85:46:15. Never again.

The Movie(s)

There isn’t really much to say, so here’s a half-baked movie report (althoughI’m more into no-bake Jell-O cheesecake). As always, it’s a gloried version of reality because, well, when you’re really suffering, going through the darkest moments, or scramble up a sketchy slope that requires 124% of your attention, the camera isn’t exactly the first thing one thinks about.

The weather forecast wasn’t glorious when I left, but it was nowhere near as bad as it turned out to be. I probably should have just stayed at home. And why I didn’t think about exploring Glacier Peak and the snow situation while I was there a week before will forever remain a mystery.

The Challenge

The Eagle’s 33 Challenge consists of summiting all 33 peaks over 9,000ft (2743m) with at least 300ft (91m) of prominence in Oregon’s Eagle Cap Wilderness in a single push.

Bird’s-eye perspective of the area with the 33 peaks over 9,000ft. For a complete list of the peaks, see Eagle’s 33 Challenge.

Stats

Disclaimer: The route I followed is neither sane nor safe. I am in no way recommending and endorsing any of the information on this page. I strongly recommend you stay away from this challenge, or at the very least from the line I picked. But should you decide to make your own attempt anyway, you won’t blame me and won’t sue me if your adventure goes sideways.
